Mark Engel

BSc(MED) Hons (Human Genetics), MPH (Epidemiology & Biostatistics)

Mark Engel initially trained as a Medical Laboratory Scientist before completing an honours degree in Human Genetics in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town. After completing a Master in Public Health degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, also at the University of Cape Town, he joined the Department of Medicine at the University of Cape Town as a Project Manager of the ASAP Programme in Rheumatic Fever and Rheumatic Heart Disease.  Together with his research activities on the genetic epidemiology of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease, Mark is also actively involved in teaching and the supervision of postgraduate students.
